incorrect title September 9, 2009 A Reader (USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This book is not an audio book as titled on your website, rather, it is a book with two DVDs of data and software.
Excellent help March 7, 2009 Daniel Gruber (Paradise Valley, AZ United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an excellent, very helpful intro to the basics of using ArcGIS (specifically ArcMap in my case). The ESRI documentation that comes with the software was not helpful at all. I was (painfully) learning mostly by clicking on various menus until this book arrived. By referencing the book and its many examples, I've been able to develop my material in a matter of a few hours after spending days making little progress. Expensive but worth it.
Great book for starting out with ArcGIS April 15, 2010 Joshua 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'd highly recommend this book for someone (like myself) who's never used GIS before. I had never used GIS software before and bought this book to try to learn this new skill for work. Since it includes the demo version of the software, I was able to install and learn it at home. I'm about half-way through and the lessons are clear and well thought out.
Unless you need certification with GIS, don't pay the big money for a class, just buy a book like this and teach yourself. If you get stuck, then go hire a student to tutor you for a few hours. The colleges' geography departments have plenty of highly-trained GIS masters who'd be happy to teach you for $20/hour, if you get stuck.
Great book for ArcGIS! February 4, 2009 MaryEN (Denton, TX United States) Wonderful book to learn the basics of GIS. Includes software trial period and great samples to learn GIS functions.
Great step-by-step instructions October 5, 2009 Colleen R. Wells (Minnesota, USA) I recently purchased this book to help some of my staff become familiar with GIS software, as we track all of our projects in a GIS database. One of my staff who had never worked with GIS has completed nearly all of the tutorials in the book without difficulty. Only on a couple of occasions has she needed assistance. I think this is a great introduction to GIS applications, especially for beginners.
