| Customer Reviews: Good Access Moderate Access 2010 May 21, 2010 T.A.Carey 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you are new to databases and/or Microsoft Access then you will find this book helpful. It is a tome full of excellent information on database concepts and goes through a ton of Access features. If you are looking for a book that incorporates Access 2010 features throughout the text then you should probably look elsewhere. I learned more about Access 2010 features by listening to 10 minutes of online marketing then I did through the first 600 pages of this book.
Because I am more than a bit rusty with Access I am not sorry i purchased the book however I will now need to find a second one that actually covers Access 2010 in depth.
Kindle Edition Doesn't Include CD-ROM Files June 30, 2010 Anthony Perez (Phoenix, AZ USA) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Can't comment on the book per se, but the Kindle edition offers no access to the files on the CD-ROM, which are integral to the book's teaching process. The files are not available for download at the publisher's website, either. Now I'll have to purchase this book AGAIN just to get the CD-ROM. The final indignity is that the CD-ROM includes the entire book as a PDF anyway, making the Kindle edition all but useless.
The worst Access book ever July 27, 2010 Glenn W 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've read over two dozen Access books, starting with Access 97; this is by far the worst. The examples, such as they are, are disjointed and nearly impossible to follow, and the text itself meanders through a morass of muddled exposition. You shouldn't have to try to figure out how to use the software as you go along -- that's what online help is for. Carrie Prague was the lead author on previous Access Bibles; those were models of how to write such books. As a decent alternative you might try the "Missing Manual" volume. I've also liked previous Viescas "Inside Out" books and have pre-ordered one of those. In any case, stay away from this dog.
